Stuart Pearce admits he was really impressed by the energy from Chelsea’s Mason Mount in his England performance at the World Cup.
England edged closer to qualification from their World Cup group following a 0-0 draw against the United States yesterday.
The Three Lions fanbase aren’t too impressed by an underwhelming display in Qatar, but Gareth Southgate’s team are now close to the knockout rounds.
Mount, who started again as England’s attacking midfielder, worked his socks off for 90 minutes.
However, the 23-year-old Chelsea man has actually been criticised by some in the aftermath of the England result. For example, Chris Sutton claimed he struggled in his performance against the U.S. Also, Stan Collymore suggests he should be dropped by Southgate.

Mason Mount energy
Stuart Pearce is someone that has actually defended the Chelsea and England No.19 for his World Cup display.
“I thought in the front three Mount was our best player because of what he was pressing with and his bit of energy he gives us,” Pearce told talkSPORT.
Mount did look busy with his pressing and running off the ball to try combat an athletic opposition in the United States.
Many believe he needs to do more on the ball to merit a spot in the XI, which is fair enough when you consider the talent within the squad.
However, Southgate trusts the Chelsea man to carry out his instructions on the pitch.

It’s been a mixed bag so far from Chelsea’s representatives at the World Cup.
There’s no doubt Blues manager Graham Potter will be keeping a close eye on how his players fare at the international tournament, especially as it seemed like pre-World Cup he was trying to work out the best position for some players.
One of his biggest challenges will be trying to lift individuals that have a tough time during the next couple of weeks.
