Pundit Ian Wright has claimed that Chelsea have a couple of first team players who Premier League rivals Liverpool could really do with.

He told the ‘Kelly and Wrighty show’ that a midfielder like Moises Caicedo or Romeo Lavia is a player who would make them a far more complete unit behind their devastating attack.

Chelsea and Liverpool went toe-to-toe in a number of key transfer battles this summer, although the Blues did seem to come out on top in all of them.

Despite a bigger bid from the Reds, Caicedo elected to commit his future to Chelsea, not willing to travel to Anfield for a medical.

He eventually joined as a club-record deal, although he was not the final midfield addition of the summer.

Lavia, who also at one point looked as if he was off to Liverpool, arrived at Stamford Bridge, however is yet to play due to injury.

Wright has claimed that both additions would have been absolutely huge for Jurgen Klopp’s men, and they could really do with either.

He said: “When you look at them, they have got Salah, Nunez, Gakpo, Jota and Diaz. They have 35 goals between them. That’s happening.

“The midfield is something which will probably be tested simply because of the player they said they needed, the Caicedo which they tried for, or Lavia.”

There is excitement over the return of the former Southampton man from injury, which could be the case in the coming weeks.

He has already returned to action on the grass, and a return to first team training is imminent.

Caicedo meanwhile has established himself as one of the first choices for Mauricio Pochettino this season, forming a strong partnership already with Enzo Fernandez.
