TalkSPORT’s Ray Parlour has claimed he would be ecstatic if Arsenal pipped Chelsea to a deal for Gabriel Jesus this summer

The Gunners and the Blues have emerged as the two favourites for a deal for the Brazilian, with him seeming surplus to requirements following the purchases of Erling Haland and Julian Alvarez at Manchester City.

While Thomas Tuchel’s side are able to offer immediate Champions League football to the 25-year-old, Arsenal remain firmly in the hunt to secure his signature.

Jesus scored eight goals and assisted nine in 28 league appearances, occupying an unfamiliar role in the City attack. The Brazil international plied his trade on the right-hand-side of the frontline, allowing for Pep Guardiola’s false nine system to come to fruition.

The rumoured exit has seen the London rivals engaged in a transfer war, with Parlour showing his excitement at his potential arrival at the Emirates.

He said: “At the moment it looks like Arsenal or Chelsea.

“I’d be delighted if Arsenal got Jesus, that would be a great signing. The only thing going for Arsenal in this situation is Arteta. He might know him a little bit better.

“Now he’s the manager I’m going to take a chance and go to Arsenal, but that would be a fantastic signing. He’d be leading the line every single week.”

While it may hurt to seemingly see a transfer target choose a rival over Chelsea, the transfer market still has plenty of opportunities to acquire superstar talent to play in attack.

Even City have another player seemingly set for a move this summer, with Raheem Sterling rumoured to be high on the list of Chelsea’s targets.

Leeds United’s Raphinha has also been on the agenda of both Chelsea and Arsenal, so if the Gunners secure a deal for Jesus, his fellow Brazilian could be available for a deal to Stamford Bridge.
