The season has not even started yet, but Jamie Carragher has still made a very interesting prediction about Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.

Enzo Maresca was brought in to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who actually did not do too much of a bad job at Chelsea in the end.

The Argentine managed to guide Chelsea to sixth place in the Premier League table and the Carabao Cup final last season.

If Manchester United had not won the FA Cup, the Blues would have got into the Europa League.

Of course, Champions League football was always the objective, and that is what Maresca will have to achieve. Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is convinced about Maresca’s abilities.

Jamie Carragher’s Enzo Maresca prediction

Chelsea’s pre-season has been a disaster, with the Blues having just one game left to play.

They won just one of their friendlies in the United States, a 3-0 win against Club America, and lost three others. In matches with Celtic and Manchester City, Maresca’s side conceded four times in each fixture.

They also failed to beat League One club Wrexham, drawing 2-2. It has not been overlooked by Jamie Carragher, who does not expect Maresca to finish the 2024/25 campaign as Chelsea manager.

Speaking on The Overlap, the Liverpool legend said: “Listen, me and Scholesy [Paul Scholes] were talking about this before, the way their pre-season’s gone, you’ve got Man City first game of the season, I’d be surprised if Maresca’s the manager there at the end of the season, very surprised.”

Chelsea’s squad will be boosted further before the transfer window closes. Maresca wants Samu Omorodion, and the Blues look to be closing in on the signing of the Atletico Madrid striker.

Will Chelsea end up sacking Enzo Maresca?

A lot has been said about Chelsea’s owners, but in their defence, they were quite patient with Pochettino.

Pochettino had a very good Chelsea side in mid-table for the majority of the 2023/24 season. It was only towards the end of the campaign that the Blues started to pick up.

Todd Boehly and Co could have easily dismissed him before then, and the 52-year-old leaving the club in May was a mutual decision.

Therefore, you would expect Maresca, who is on a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, to get time.
