Iker Casillas praises 28-year-old Chelsea man for performance in the Champions League last night
Spain legend Iker Casillas has taken to Instagram to praise Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for his performance against RB Salzburg last night.
The 28-year-old made a few big saves as he continued his run of starting every game since Graham Potter came in to the club.
The streak reached nine matches last night, making it 10 in a row for the Spaniard under both men in charge.
This has seen Edouard Mendy struggling to break back into the first team, although it has been difficult to drop Kepa due to the low amount of goals conceded.
While he did concede last night, the goal came from a sensational Salzburg breakaway where the goalkeeper was left with no chance.
Despite no clean sheet, the performance still drew praise from an icon of Kepa’s, with former Spain goalkeeper Casillas reacting in the comments of his Instagram post after the game.
Kepa praised by Casillas
The Chelsea man will certainly have one eye on his international side at the moment, with the World Cup set to start in less than a month’s time.
Spain’s goalkeeper situation has been less than secure over the last couple of years, with them unable to nail down a regular starter who has impressed.
This could see the Blues shotstopper considered for a place in the squad, with him looking one of the best in the world on current form.
Kepa will surely continue his run in the side for this weekend’s trip to Potter’s former side, Brighton.
However, Mendy will surely be handed his first start under the new manager in a week’s time, when Dinamo Zagreb come to town in the Champions League.
With the Blues already qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition as group winners, it will allow those who are yet to be given a good opportunity under the new manager to show what they’re about.
