Paul Merson has made his early score prediction for Chelsea against Newcastle United in a few days time.
Chelsea host Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Monday night in a Premier League fixture.
It starts a run for Mauricio Pochettino’s side of five out of their next six matches at home in front of their own fans.
The Blues suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat back in November when they faced Newcastle in the reverse fixture at St James’ Park, so let’s hope for a much different game this time around.
Speaking on social media on Thursday morning, Paul Merson has tipped Chelsea to beat Newcastle by a narrow scoreline.
Merson wrote on X: “I’m going for a 2-1 Chelsea win.”

Chelsea go into Monday’s match versus Newcastle desperately needing a win.
It’s one victory from the teams’s last four matches across all competitions, which includes the League Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
As for the Blues league form, they’ve dropped back into the bottom half of the division table. Pochettino is working with a very young group of players, but there’s no doubt they’re underachieving when you look at the talent around the dressing room.
One piece of intriguing pre-match team news is that Newcastle are set to be without one of their key stars. The Daily Mail claimed this week that Magpies right-back Kieran Trippier is set to miss the next couple of games because of a calf injury.
We’re worried about the further backlash from Chelsea supporters if there’s another defeat against Newcastle. If the Blues can put together a run in the final third of the season, perhaps qualifying for a European position isn’t completely out of the question yet.
