‘Interesting’: Chris Sutton now reacts to what Mauricio Pochettino has been doing at Chelsea already

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton says he expected Mauricio Pochettino to chop and change his team this season.

Eight players have started in all six of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far and Sutton is surprised that Mauricio Pochettino has been using the same individuals.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club, he said: “What I find interesting about their opening six games is that I thought he would have chopped and changed a lot, but there have been eight players who have started every game so they have had a chance to get up to speed and get that rhythm.

“But you look at their first 11 and it’s a bit of a development squad when you compare it to Man City and Liverpool, that’s not an impressive first 11 at all.”

Axel Disasi, Conor Gallagher, Enzo Fernandez, Levi Colwill, Nicolas Jackson, Raheem Sterling, Robert Sanchez and Thiago Silva are the eight players who have been ever-present under Pochettino.

However, that number will drop to at least seven next Monday when Chelsea take on Fulham with Jackson now suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card against Aston Villa over the weekend.

Not clicking

While Pochettino may have a group of players who have started every Premier League game so far, it is still not clicking.

It seems more time will be needed for this team to gel, which is understandable. There are a lot of new players in it still getting to know each other.

Pochettino cannot wait around forever, though, especially after the poor start Chelsea have made to the season.

He needs to see partnerships on the pitch being formed now. Hopefully that happens and helps the Blues to start winning matches.

They have won just one game in the Premier League so far this season, which came against Luton Town, who currently sit in the relegation zone.

If Chelsea are going to beat better opposition and finish in the top four, which looks highly unlikely at the moment, then Pochettino needs his team to really come together and start performing as a collective unit.
