England U21 manager Lee Carsley has now claimed that Cole Palmer has returned to Chelsea early during the international break.

He told the Evening Standard that it is only a small issue though, however he has travelled back in order to try and keep his absence to a minimum.

Worries surrounded the Chelsea fanbase late last week when it emerged that Palmer had picked up an injury whilst representing the Young Lions.

Despite the dominant win where Noni Madueke was arguably the star of the show, there was an issue for the captain on the night.

It later emerged that he had suffered a dead leg, and would be monitored over the coming days to see if he could participate in their next international game.

However, with the comfortable position the England U21 side find themselves in, there was no need to risk things with his fitness.

Carsley has now confirmed that Palmer has returned to Stamford Bridge to undergo the necessary treatment.

He said: “I think Cole would be fine, but we don’t take any chances with any of the players.

“If there is a slight doubt that they’re going to miss a game at the weekend, we get them back to the clubs as quickly as we can.

“We could’ve kept Cole here another day and see how it was, but we didn’t think it was right. Everyone else is fine, a few colds and sniffles.”

Chelsea fans will be extremely hopeful that Palmer is fit for when the Premier League returns at the weekend.

The Blues are welcoming Arsenal to Stamford Bridge in what is sure to be their biggest test of the campaign to date.
