Filip Jorgensen has already shown his desire to leave Chelsea this summer, and Denmark manager Brian Riemer has now strengthened that.

Filip Jorgensen’s future at Chelsea has been thrown into serious doubt after the Danish goalkeeper requested a summer departure during a face-to-face meeting with the club hierarchy.

Frustrated by a severe lack of regular game time, Jorgensen is eager to move on, having already seen a January exit blocked by the club. It caps off a volatile, up-and-down campaign for the 24-year-old at Chelsea.

While Jorgensen enjoyed strong moments in cup competitions, including his Champions League debut against Ajax, his progress was disrupted by untimely injuries and key mistakes.

Now, with the 2026 World Cup in North America right around the corner, Jorgensen will have the chance to show what he’s capable of to interested parties.

Filip Jorgensen advised to leave Chelsea

Amid the battle for the Denmark number one spot, international boss Brian Riemer has suggested that Jorgensen needs to leave Chelsea if he is to stand chance of becoming the number one in the future, in comments Ekstra Bladet have relayed.

“The next few months will determine who will be playing in the future. But we could easily be in a situation in September where we have not chosen a first-choice goalkeeper.

“It is about where they will be and what their future is at club level. It may be that the performances they deliver at club level give me some answers that I need.

“In any case, playing time is important. They both played a lot in the Premier League last season, but they were also out and they also each had their own injury history.”

Filip Jorgensen has no choice but to leave

Filip Jorgensen’s desire to force a summer exit from Stamford Bridge is likely driven by the daunting reality of Chelsea’s incoming goalkeeper reinforcements.

The Dane already spent this past season playing second fiddle to Robert Sanchez, and his path to the starting eleven is only getting more congested. Highly rated Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders is returning to West London following a productive loan spell at sister club Strasbourg.

With Penders arriving ready to actively compete for first-team minutes, Jorgensen knows he would inevitably drop even further down the pecking order, leaving a summer transfer as his only viable option.
