One Chelsea player has been described as “irreplaceable” following the Blues’ 1-0 win against Fulham at Stamford Bridge yesterday.
Chelsea managed to beat their west London rivals thanks to a Cole Palmer penalty, with the 21-year-old having an excellent season.
It was his ninth goal of the Premier League campaign, but it was team-mate Conor Gallagher who Glenn Murray described as irreplaceable on Match of the Day after the game.
Gallagher has not been a threat like Palmer in the final third, but he has still been a very important player for Mauricio Pochettino‘s side this term. The midfielder has only missed one top-flight game so far.
Conor Gallagher irreplaceable
For Murray, Gallagher is the kind of player Chelsea would struggle to replace.
Speaking about the 23-year-old after the Blues’ win against Fulham, the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker said: “For me, he’s the heartbeat of Chelsea and probably irreplaceable and this wasn’t just today, it’s all season.”
Chelsea may have to replace Conor Gallagher
Chelsea could soon find themselves in a position where they actually do have to try and replace Gallagher.
The Englishman’s contract expires next year and he has been heavily linked with a move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino would be sad to see Gallagher go, having relied heavily on him this season. However, Chelsea should have the funds to bring in another quality midfielder if they want to try and replace him.
The Blues are obviously a very rich club and have shown in the last two transfer windows that they are not afraid to spend big on midfielders, splashing the cash on both Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
In an ideal world, given how Gallagher has played in the current campaign, Chelsea would just keep hold of the England international.
