Mason Mount has claimed in an interview with Soccer AM that he sees the ‘number eight’ role as his perfect position.
The England international has often been relied upon for his versatility. Both his club and country have deployed him in numerous roles.
Since Graham Potter has come in, this hasn’t changed for the 23-year-old.

However, some system tweaks have allowed him at times to feature in a shuttling midfield role, normally alongside Mateo Kovacic.
Mount has claimed this is where he sees the best out of himself, however he acknowledged his versatility is key to him playing so many games already.
Mount wants to play number eight
He said: “I’m a midfielder. I’m a number eight, I’ve always said that. I feel like I’m versatile so I can play higher up, I can play deeper. I’ve played so many positions over the last few years.
“In this day and age, being able to play different positions is so key. We can change formation three times in a game and you can play three different positions. Knowing those positions and being able to adapt in a game. That’s what managers ask for, and it’s what you need to play in the Premier League.”

Mount has certainly found another level this season since Potter joined the club, with him looking like the player who topped the goal and assist charts last season again.
He will be hoping personally that he has found form at just the right time on a personal level, with the World Cup just a few weeks away.
He had to start from the bench in England’s last two fixtures, however proved from the bench in the final game against Germany that he certainly has much more to give for the Three Lions this winter.
