Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville predict the score ahead of Newcastle vs Chelsea

Newcastle United and Chelsea lock horns this weekend at St James’ Park as domestic football returns.

Newcastle host Chelsea this Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, with top-flight action returning after November’s international break.

For Mauricio Pochettino’s side, the two-week pause came at a frustrating time. That is because the Blues were picking up momentum by collecting four points from their previous two league games against Manchester City and Tottenham.

Now, Chelsea will look to pick up where they left off when they travel for one of the toughest away trips in the division.

Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction

Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville made a joint score prediction ahead of Newcastle versus Chelsea. They’ve agreed on a home win at St James’ Park this weekend.

Carragher said: “I think Newcastle at home.”

Neville added: “2-0 Newcastle. Chelsea aren’t scoring up there.”

Newcastle recorded a 1-0 win over Chelsea in the same league fixture during the 2022/23 season.

Blues squad getting stronger

Our guess is that Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be feeling increasingly happier when he looks around at his current squad. For certain, it’s becoming a lot stronger as more and more players return from injury.

Blues supporters are intrigued to see if Christopher Nkunku, 26, is close to making his competitive debut for the club.

Reporting via his Substack this week, journalist Simon Phillips said that Nkunku will be available for selection when Chelsea travel to Newcastle on Saturday. The French attacker’s not kicked a ball yet this season due to a knee injury, though.

We would certainly prefer the club to be cautious with Nkunku’s return, especially ahead of such a busy December schedule.

Elsewhere, there were signs before the internationals that this Chelsea group is gelling together. Finally, this is a side scoring a lot more freely with the forward players really stepping up. In particular, the trio of Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson is beginning to click.

Chelsea are preparing to face a Newcastle side that are dealing with some vital injuries in their own squad, so we should travel with confidence of getting a result.
