Chelsea currently find themselves in the top four of the Premier League, however looking over their shoulder at the chasing pack behind.

Enzo Maresca has overseen a tough run of form that has seen them fall way away from any talk of being title contenders this season.

With the Blues out of both domestic cup competitions, all of their focus will be on the Premier League and Conference League, where Chelsea are firm favourites to win the whole thing.

Jamie Carragher says Todd Boehly will be ‘really worried’ about Chelsea right now

The manager has begun to pick up criticism in the media for his part in the drop off. Ian Wright believes Maresca ruling them out of the title race has allowed for standards to slip.

Blame is due at everyone’s door though, including those who have spent the extortionate amount of money. This is of course all overseen by the owners, Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

With missing out on the top four now a real possibility, Jamie Carragher believes those in charge of the club will be concerned at the prospect of missing out on competing amongst Europe’s elite again next season.

He told ‘The Overlap’: “I’ve got to say I’ve been really disappointed with them. I never thought they could win the league at any stage because of the goalkeeper and the entre forward, they’re not at the level. The centre-backs are not at the level either.

“But this drop-off will be a real worry for the people at the top of the club. If they don’t get Champions League football next season, having been there for a couple of years and spent that amount of money, that’s a disaster.”

Todd Boehly’s previous transfer targets prove to be missed opportunities

A lot of criticism was fired Boehly’s way after the first transfer window since the takeover, with the American filling in as sporting director for that period.

The Blues made a number of poor signings, some which likely set them back years in the project they are undergoing.

However, a number of those who were strongly linked have gone on to become world-beaters.

Boehly agreed a deal to sign Raphinha before Barcelona swooped in, with him now a contender to win the Ballon d’Or following an excellent last 12 months.

They also missed out on the addition of Ousmane Dembele, who is in electric form at PSG.
