Jamie Carragher has been discussing Moises Caicedo following his performance in Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool at the weekend.
Caicedo put in a terrific display, opening the scoring for the Blues with an amazing strike in the first half.
It was his third goal this season, two more than he managed in the entire 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
There is some concern around Caicedo right now, though, with the club having to monitor him closely after all of the football that he has played since the beginning of last term.

Jamie Carragher explains why Arsenal’s Declan Rice is better than Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo
Carragher thinks Caicedo is close to being the best midfielder in the English top flight. However, for now, that title belongs to Declan Rice, according to the Liverpool legend.
Discussing whether Caicedo is the Premier League’s top midfielder on Sky Sports, Carragher said: “He’s very close. He wouldn’t be the best for me. You’re talking about all-round midfield player, I would say Declan Rice would just pip him for me. I just think he’s got an extra little bit of quality with the ball.”
While Enzo Fernandez may not be as well-rounded as his teammate Caicedo and Rice, the Argentina international is also among the best midfielders in the division.
He showed that on Saturday after putting in an excellent performance himself. Jamie Redknapp loved Fernandez’s display, praising the former Benfica man for stepping up in Cole Palmer’s absence.
Ex-Manchester United defender Gary Neville has also been speaking about Chelsea’s midfield.

Where Gary Neville stands in Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice debate
In contrast to Carragher, Neville thinks Caicedo is the best midfielder the Premier League has to offer at the moment.
When Neville spoke about Caicedo after the Chelsea versus Liverpool game, he said: “Moises Caicedo was the best player on the pitch by a mile today and he’s the best midfielder in the Premier League at this point in time. I’m comfortable saying that.”
Chelsea fans, who watch the Ecuadorian week in, week out, would agree. If Caicedo maintains the form that he is in, Carragher and others will have no choice but to come to the same conclusion.
Rice is a brilliant midfielder, but Caicedo can do everything that he can. And now that Caicedo is starting to add goals to his game, he could be about to reach another level. Simply put, it is hard to justify the former being a better player than the latter.
