Willy Caballero’s update on Moises Caicedo following Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Liverpool on Saturday will worry supporters.
Caballero took questions in Chelsea‘s post-match press conference, stepping in for Enzo Maresca, who was not allowed to be in attendance after his red card.
Maresca received a second caution after he joined Chelsea’s wild celebrations following Estevao Willian’s winning goal.
Before Estevao’s strike, Caicedo had given Chelsea the lead with an excellent hit. Even Liverpool fans were impressed with Caicedo, showing just how good he was on the day.

Moises Caicedo suffering from pain
Caballero was very pleased with Caicedo’s performance against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge; however, he has revealed that the midfielder is dealing with a bit of pain after playing so many matches last season.
As a result, Chelsea have to monitor Caicedo very closely as they try to prevent an injury.
Speaking to football.london and others after the game, Caballero said: “We need to manage him sometimes because we want him to arrive well to the games. Today he did a great job, a great game. Also, he scored a fantastic goal.
“We need to keep an eye on him because all the players that play constantly from last season have been dealing with some pain. That is why we always think about Moi and Enzo [Fernandez].”
Caballero also discussed Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong, who had to be taken off during the match.
Given Chelsea’s current situation in central defence, it was worrying to see both Badiashile and Acheampong drop to the ground before being substituted.
In a boost to Maresca, though, Caballero confirmed that the two defenders are OK and were only taken off as a precaution.

How many games did Moises Caicedo play last season?
Caicedo probably was overplayed during the 2024/25 campaign. In total, the 23-year-old made 50 appearances in all competitions.
Caicedo was also an ever-present in the Premier League, starting all 38 of Chelsea’s top-flight fixtures.
It is a miracle that the Ecuadorian has not picked up an injury or burned out yet. Both remain possibilities, though, if Maresca continues to rinse him like this.
But with Dario Essugo out injured, the Chelsea head coach may have no choice but to. Essugo was brought in to provide cover for Caicedo but recently underwent surgery and will be sidelined for a while.
