New Blues signing David Datro Fofana said playing for Chelsea is a dream country as he had his say on his first month at the club.

The 20-year-old joined the Blues in early January and has made two appearances as a substitute so far.

He is still waiting for his full Chelsea debut, an opportunity that may come against West Ham United this weekend, but at such a young age, he can afford to be more patient.

Unlike several other recent Chelsea signings, the Premier League is arguably a huge jump for Fofana, who has only played in Europe since joining Norwegian champions Molde in 2021.

The earlier expectation was that Chelsea will loan him out for the second half of the season. Recent reports, however, suggest that the club have decided to keep him despite speculations over a potential loan to Turkish side Galatasaray.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s potential imminent exit amid links to MLS’ Los Angeles FC might have played a part, but Fofana’s promising cameos must have been taken into consideration, too.

For now, Fofana will have to adapt to a new environment, and he seems to be enjoying it too.

“I can say that I am really liking it,” the Ivory Coast international said about his first month as a Blue in a Chelsea interview.

“The atmosphere, my teammates, the coach, and everyone…

“I am really, really happy and extremely content to be here and fulfil my dreams.

“Really happy to be here is all I can say.”

Speaking about his Premier League debut against Fulham last week, Fofana added: “I came to make an impact, to score or to help the team progress.

“That was on my mind.”

The Blue’s poor goalscoring record this season, the worst among teams in the top half of the Premier League table, is a problem they desperately have to solve to have any chance of a top-four finish.

While it is unreasonable to expect Fofana to be a short-term solution, his goalscoring instinct can hopefully improve the team’s output in front of the goal.
