Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk has started to make some significant impacts on the pitch this season, but it still feels like a way to go before he breaks into the team’s best starting line-up.
Mykhailo Mudryk, who cost the Blues £89m to sign, is one of the high-profile names in the Chelsea squad. However, he’s been struggling for regular minutes this campaign under Enzo Maresca.
The 23-year-old left-winger has some stiff competition for places at Stamford Bridge, which is why he’s not had much of a look-in during the Premier League recently.
| Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 7 (1) | 0 | 0 |
| Conference League | 3 (3) | 2 | 3 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 (2) | 0 | 1 |
| Carabao Cup | 2 (2) | 0 | 1 |
It’s encouraging that the Ukraine international is positively impacting the Blues side when he gets the chance, but one league start all season must be so frustrating for him.
Peter Crouch recently said Chelsea’s Mudryk is getting his confidence back, so he’d now like to see him shine in the bigger games.

Jason Cundy claims Mykhailo Mudryk must improve defensively
TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy has claimed that Chelsea attacker Mykhailo Mudryk needs to improve his defensive work after watching his substitute performance in the weekend’s 1-1 league draw at home to Arsenal.
“Arsenal really came to life when Pedro Neto went on to the right and Mykhailo Mudryk on to the left. Mudryk defensively, that part of his game has got to improve. I felt Bukayo Saka got more space when that decision was made,” Cundy told talkSPORT (11:07pm, 11 November).
In fairness, Blues wingers Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto are strong with their defensive work when tracking back. Therefore, it’s a part of Mudryk’s game he needs as well.
Maresca claimed last month Mudryk is learning slower than most at Chelsea, but he’s been noticing improvements in his game. If everything clicks into gear for the rapid attacker, he’s got the tools to be a big player for the club moving forward.
Will Mykhailo Mudryk come good at Chelsea?
Behdad Eghbali is desperate for Mudryk to succeed in Chelsea colours, but will the co-owner get his wish.
So far, the wide player hasn’t lived up to the hype during nearly two years in English football. It does feel like Maresca is the right profile of manager to get the best from him, though.
For Mudryk, the next chance he gets to start a league game he’s got to seize with both hands.

Pedro Neto is the Chelsea winger in the squad standing out above the rest right now, but a dip from Jadon Sancho and Noni Madueke should open the door for Mudryk.
