There’s definitely a feel-good factor that has returned to Stamford Bridge this season because of Chelsea’s improvements on and off the pitch.
Chelsea sit third in the Premier League table during this latest international break. For Blues head coach Enzo Maresca, he can reflect on a really positive opening few months in charge.
Pat Nevin is impressed by the young Chelsea side going toe to toe with Arsenal last Sunday during a league match that finished 1-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Hopefully, the Blues can capitalise on a good start to establish themselves in the top four.

Jason Cundy claims Marc Cucurella is enjoying his football at Chelsea
Jason Cundy has delivered a glowing verdict on Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, 26, for his impressive performances this year. In fact, he said that the Spanish left-back is really enjoying his time on the football pitch right now.
“I would say his last three to four months of the season last year he really started to look like the Cucurella we saw at Brighton…” Cundy told talkSPORT.
“Cucurella was excellent [against Arsenal]. He looks like he’s enjoying his football as well… He’s now one of the first names on the team sheet.”
Graham Potter recently hailed the attitude of Chelsea star Cucurella by claiming that his “personality is infectious.”
Now into his third season as a Blues player, the all-action full-back is in the greatest run of form he’s produced in west London. His challenge is to keep his standards high and perform at this consistent level.
Cucurella is making himself undroppable in Chelsea’s best XI because of his complete package at left-back.
Marc Cucurella defends with aggression
A big reason why Cucurella has become a bit of a fan favourite at Chelsea is the way he defends with such passion and aggression. For example, he barely gave Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka a sniff in last weekend’s meeting.
Here is a look at Cucurella’s individual statistics in the Premier League this season via WhoScored:
| Appearances | Tackles per 90 | Interceptions per 90 | Clearances per 90 | Pass success | Yellow cards | Average rating |
| 10 | 1.4 | 0.9 | 2.3 | 89.8% | 6 | 6.56 |
Cucurella had to deal with heavy scrutiny during his first couple of years with the Blues, but finally he’s justifying his £60m investment.
