Chelsea have invested a lot under this ownership, assembling this young squad, which is hopefully on an upward trajectory. According to John Obi Mikel, one of the club’s marquee signings is “worth every penny” right now.
The Blues underlined their potential as a group during the weekend’s 2-1 win over reigning champions Liverpool in the Premier League. Enzo Maresca won two trophies in his first year, the Club World Cup and Conference League, to suggest he’s the right head coach to lead them forward as well.
David James hasn’t ruled Chelsea out for the Premier League title, but we would need to see far greater consistency from the talented squad.

John Obi Mikel blown away by Moises Caicedo
It cost Chelsea a then-British record of £115m (BBC) to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton in the 2023 summer transfer window. John Obi Mikel now thinks the 23-year-old powerhouse midfielder is proving he was worth the investment.
When discussing Caicedo on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel said: “There is no midfield player right now that can give you everything that Caicedo gives us right now. He’s absolutely magnificent.
“Breaking up play and setting up play. He’s first to everything. He’s aggressive. He’s a leader as well. He’s a complete football player. Chipping in now with goals. Taking shots from outside the box. He’s absolutely worth every penny.”
This comes after he delivered a memorable display on the weekend. Even Liverpool supporters praised Caicedo after the central midfielder’s display against them.
The South American star is renowned for his incredible defensive work off the ball, but he’s also started to add goals to his game by netting three Premier League goals already this season.

Moises Caicedo features in Premier League’s top five players in the 2025/26 season
Now that we’ve had seven gameweeks in the Premier League campaign, let’s take a look at which individuals have started the brightest.
Chelsea fans won’t be surprised to see that Caicedo makes the division’s top five players based on statistics.
| Player | Club | Rating |
| Erling Haaland | Manchester City | 8.10 |
| Antoine Semenyo | Bournemouth | 8.08 |
| Nick Pope | Newcastle United | 7.72 |
| Moises Caicedo | Chelsea | 7.72 |
| Ryan Gravenberch | Liverpool | 7.65 |
We expect to see him return after the international break fit and firing as well. It is great news for Chelsea that Caicedo has been rested during the next two weeks by Ecuador for a couple of friendlies because his schedule has been so hectic.
