Liverpool’s poor form continued as they suffered a 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening. Even in defeat, the Reds supporters did find time to credit a Chelsea player for his outstanding performance against them.
Liverpool have now lost three consecutive matches across all competitions after a late setback against Chelsea.
The Blues went in front through Moises Caicedo’s wonder strike from distance against Liverpool. However, the visitors did respond in the second period when Cody Gakpo equalised.
It looked like the contest was heading for a stalemate, but substitute Estevao Willian scored a winning goal in stoppage time to clinch the three points.
Liverpool have now lost consecutively to Chelsea, Galatasaray and Crystal Palace across all competitions, which is a poor way to go into the international break. As for the Blues, they have back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Benfica to reflect on during the next two weeks.

Liverpool fans applaud opposition player Moises Caicedo
Even Liverpool supporters on social media couldn’t help but admit that Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, 23, was too good in midfield against them. He scored a brilliant goal from distance, plus he was everywhere with another typically busy display.
It is quite the compliment when a fanbase universally praises an opposition player on X for his performance against their own team.
One fan wrote: “Caicedo was the best player on the pitch, by a long way as well.”
“Caicedo has been one of the best midfielders in the league this season. Absolute quality midfielder,” another commented.
One supporter posted: “Caicedo bossed our midfield.”
“Just give Caicedo that Man of the Match. He bullied us,” another admitted.
Yet again, Caicedo was brilliant in central midfield, where he impressed both offensively and defensively.
Even though Liverpool have some top-class players in the centre of the park, Caicedo stood out as the best midfielder on Saturday.
Caicedo, who could be offered a Chelsea contract extension, is the heartbeat of his side right now. In addition to his defensive contributions, he’s also scored three goals in the opening seven Premier League matches this campaign as well.

Moises Caicedo compared to Chelsea great N’Golo Kante
Blues supporters have been extremely fortunate to watch some of the world’s elite central midfielders in the 21st century. It feels like they may have another one on their hands now, too.
After Chelsea’s late win against Liverpool, Richard Keys made a comparison between Caicedo and N’Golo Kante.
Back in December 2024, Caicedo admitted he looked up to Kante as a footballer when he was younger. It certainly shows because there are plenty of similarities with how efficient he is at regaining possession in midfield.
