With Chelsea now without a recognised first team striker due to injuries, some have been left wondering what the club’s fortunes would look like if they had signed their top target last summer.
The Blues were pushing all the way to the final moments of deadline day to try and sign Victor Osimhen, however walked away after their best offer was turned down.
The Nigerian international has been on Chelsea’s target list for a number of transfer windows now, and the fact that Antonio Conte didn’t want him at Napoli made it a real possibility back in August.

He ended up moving on to Galatasaray, where he has enjoyed a prolific campaign in front of goal in all competitions.

Victor Osimhen wants to move to Chelsea
Osimhen remains on Chelsea’s shortlist for a new striker, with the end of his loan this summer presenting another opportunity for them to make a deal.
One person who has been a big advocate for the Blues signing the striker is John Obi Mikel. The club legend has been vocal in his admiration for Osimhen.
Mikel has now said on the Obi One podcast that Osimhen has made it clear that he wants to move to Stamford Bridge, and the opportunity to do so is still there.
He said: “Of course, Victor’s moved to Galatasaray, scoring goals, doing what he knows best. Still trying to get him to come to the club. Still pressing my buttons, trying to see where we can get things done, hopefully, you never know.

“The guy is doing really well, the door is open for him, the world is his oyster because he keeps scoring goals and there’s a lot of clubs knocking on the door so you never know in the summer where he is going to go.
“I’m sure Victor’s a smart guy. Chelsea has always been his club. He’s come out openly and said that its his childhood club, he’s always wanted to play for the club. His idol is Didier Drogba, he loved the way he played. He’s made it pretty clear that this is the club he wants to come to. I don’t think the door is shut completely.”
Chelsea’s other striker targets
While links to Osimhen remain, there are a number of other strikers who the Blues have been linked with signing at the end of this season.
Liam Delap is reportedly high on the list for potential new recruits amid his excellent start to life as a Premier League striker.
Delap is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, with him fancying his chances to become the regular number nine if he arrives.
The Blues are also looking at a number of other names too. The likes of Alexander Isak are seen as dream targets, whilst they also consider players like Conrad Harder and Benjamin Sesko.
