Chelsea have fallen short in their attempt to sign Napoli’s Victor Osimhen on deadline day.

The Blues have been constantly linked with Victor Osimhen on Friday’s deadline day for the summer transfer window, but the speculation is that any deal is now off.

Journalist Miguel Delaney has reported via X that Chelsea and Osimhen were £100,000-a-week apart during contract negotiations. It now sounds like Enzo Maresca’s side have completely missed out on the 25-year-old Serie A striker.

Chelsea walk away from Victor Osimhen transfer

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol has reported via X that Chelsea actually made one final offer to sign Napoli’s Osimhen tonight.

However, the Blues have walked away from a deal because they didn’t hear back with 20 minutes remaining of the window, so they’re resigned to missing out on his signature.

Elsewhere, journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed on X that Chelsea’s representatives have now left Naples because the Osimhen deal is off.

Chelsea have made glaring mistake in the window

Despite some exciting arrivals at Chelsea during the summer window, they’ve yet again failed because they’ve not signed a high-profile No.9 to lead the line. It feels like a real body blow that the Blues haven’t been able to get a deal over the line for Osimhen.

On paper, Napoli’s Osimhen would’ve been the perfect addition to the squad at Stamford Bridge. He’s a clinical centre-forward with a proven record of scoring lots of goals at the highest level.

Instead, Chelsea are putting so much pressure yet again on Nicolas Jackson to be the main goalscorer. It then leaves raw 18-year-old talent Marc Guiu as the understudy for the striker position. We feel like it could fall on Joao Felix or Christopher Nkunku to play as a false nine if Jackson does have any injury problems, though.
