It is fair to say that both Chelsea and the Premier League have never seen a better centre-back than former club captain John Terry.
The Cobham graduate won near enough everything that was on offer during his time at Stamford Bridge, establishing himself as a club legend in the process.
Joao Felix said yesterday he would love to have played with Terry in his hayday, with him being recognised as a brilliant figure to be around both on and off the pitch.
While Chelsea have had quality defenders in their ranks for the years since the England international was in his prime, they are perhaps currently missing the leadership of a player like Terry in their starting duo.

John Terry reminded of himself by Chelsea loanee Alfie Gilchrist
One player in that position who is impressing greatly away from Stamford Bridge right now is Alfie Gilchrist, as his Sheffield United side keep up their quest for a return to the Premier League.
Terry has said from the start of Gilchrist’s run with the club, he has seen himself in the young Englishman.
He said to MailPlus: “Literally from the first training session in which I saw him, he reminded me of myself. He was keen to learn, asking me questions about defending and constantly picking my brains over what I would do in different situations.
“And he’s 100 per cent in everything he does. Whether that’s the warm-up to get him going, he’s all-in. You don’t ever want to take that away. Even on his recovery days, he’s 100 miles per hour.
“As he gets older, he’ll understand how to manage that and how to be. But it’s a great trait to have for a young player and it can certainly set you apart.”
Alfie Gilchrist stats 2024/25
The Englishman has been a regular at the back for his new side this season, playing at both centre-back and right-back.

| Appearances | 15 |
| Clean sheets | 9 |

Chelsea fans will have no doubt seen the performance levels of their options behind Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana and wondered if they are actually any further along than Gilchrist.
Sheffield United fans have come to love Gilchrist already, however he will be hoping that his future still remains at Stamford Bridge in the long-term.
