Joleon Lescott has admitted he would be slightly worried as a Manchester City fan if Chelsea appoint Luis Enrique as their next manager.

Luis Enrique, 52, is one of the coaches most strongly linked with the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently have Frank Lampard in place as caretaker boss until the end of the season, but the supporters are patiently waiting to see who will be in the dugout for the next campaign.

Despite weeks of rumours strongly linking Enrique to Chelsea, any move could now be in jeopardy.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed on YouTube this week that Chelsea have decided to cool interest in Enrique after recent talks. Apparently, the Blues weren’t entirely happy with some of his points during conversations.

In addition, Sky Sports Germany reports that Julian Nagelsmann is now more likely than Enrique to become the next Chelsea manager.

BT Sport pundit Lescott, who had a successful career as a Man City player, believes his former club would see Chelsea appointing Enrique as the biggest threat to them.

“From a City point of view, I would be most nervous if they (Chelsea) appoint Luis Enrique. I think he’s the manager that can understand the characters, the coaching element, the tactical element that we’ve seen teams go to now. I think he’s probably the one that would make me more nervous,” Lescott told BT Sport.

The latest rumours suggest the former Barcelona and Spain boss won’t end up in West London. Let’s wait and see where the managerial search ends up, though.

Enrique may have the most impressive CV from all the managerial candidates mentioned in the media, but could Chelsea be heading in a different direction?

Regardless, we acknowledge it could take some time to actually get close to this Man City side.
