Journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed on Twitter that there is no chance that Chelsea will miss out on the signing of Christopher Nkunku this summer.

Reports from months ago claimed that his deal to move to Stamford Bridge was completed, after the club carried out a secret medical as early as last summer.

The Frenchman was a player that the Blues were interested in signing before this season, however saw him sign a new contract that included a very attractive release clause.

It seems like this was all part of the plan between the two clubs, who enjoy a strong relationship off the back of plenty of negotiations last year.

Questions had begun to crop up following the silence of both clubs regarding the deal, and combining that with Chelsea’s dismal season so far.

Nkunku still set for Chelsea move

There may have even been fears that he had changed his mind over the deal, with it now unlikely the Blues will be playing Champions League football next season.

However, Plettenberg has confirmed that there is no exit option for the player, and he will sign on a long-term deal at the end of the season.

He said: “News on Nkunku: He will definitely join Chelsea after this season confirmed. Regardless of Chelsea’s performance this season. No exit option for the player. It’s all done. Long-term contract. Around €60m transfer fee. Official announcement probably after this season.”

The challenge for Graham Potter will be finding the best place to play the attacker, with him personally admitting that his best position is off a recognised striker.

This is a position the club are not short in, with it being the role Kai Havertz has usually played best in. There is also of course current loanee Joao Felix’s situation to deal with.
