Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Chelsea have been in direct contact this morning with Moises Caicedo.

He took to Twitter to state they have asked the midfielder to wait and see if they have the ability to hijack the move presented by Liverpool late last night.

The Caicedo saga has gone from a long, drawn-out mess to one of the most exciting transfers in history in the space of 24 hours.

As Chelsea were slowly coming towards the asking price set by Brighton, it has become apparent that they were not the only club interested after all.

Overnight, Liverpool agreed a deal with the Seagulls to sign him for what would be a club-record and British-record fee.

This automatically put Jurgen Klopp’s men as the favourites, and he was today able to announce that a deal had been agreed.

Caicedo contacted by Chelsea today

However, reports later this morning have emerged stating that the midfielder has not yet made the trip from London to Liverpool in order to undergo his medical.

Now, Jacobs has claimed that this may be because the Blues have been in direct contact today to get the player to wait and see if a move to Stamford Bridge can be put back on the table.

He said: “Chelsea this morning asked Moises Caicedo to wait as they explore a way of hijacking Liverpool’s own hijack.

“Caicedo hasn’t travelled for a medical yet. Liverpool have a £111m deal agreed with Brighton, but Chelsea actively exploring options. One of the craziest stories of any window.”

Whichever side does not end up with Caicedo in their midfield will likely make their move for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia. Both sides have had bids rejected for him so far.
