‘Just keeps calm’: BT Sport pundit impressed by ‘superb’ Chelsea player’s display in 1-1 draw vs Everton

Steve Sidwell singled out Chelsea star Mason Mount for huge praise after his performance in last night’s game against Everton.

Mount, 22, continued his hot streak in front of goal by scoring for the fourth consecutive Premier League game. He slotted past England teammate Jordan Pickford with a composed finish after getting on the end of a pass from Reece James.

However, the Blues ended up with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Everton on Thursday.

England international Mount is definitely the shining light right now during what’s become a difficult period for Thomas Tuchel’s side, as they are now third in the league table four points adrift of leaders Manchester City. They will get the chance to respond in their scheduled trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, though.

BT Sport pundit Sidwell was keen to mention Mount’s calmness in the final third after yet another goal:

“He’s been superb since he’s come back in after his injury. He’s just a catalyst for Chelsea… When it comes to scoring goals he just keeps calm. Put him in them situations and he’s the main man for Chelsea,” Sidwell told BT Sport 2 (16 December).

Mount can’t do it all on his own at Chelsea

It does feel like a bit of a one-man job right now at Stamford Bridge.

It’s great to see Mount really raising his game in the last couple of months, something which has made a mockery of the criticism he received in the early part of the season. Some fans were extremely complimentary of his efforts last night.

He remains a real talisman in the Chelsea squad, but he needs some more help in the attack.

Unfortunately, the Blues were without several forwards last night. There were opportunities that were somewhat wasted by teammates Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic, though.
