Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that some figures at Chelsea have now spoken about signing one player this month.

He told Simon Phillips’ Substack that some key members of the board have discussed signing Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge during this transfer window.

The Blues have previously held Nusa as a target to bring in as they continue to target the best young players in the game.

The player himself referenced the bid from last summer, saying he couldn’t actually believe how much money was bid for him by Chelsea.

He sits on two goals and assists this season, and has already been described as ‘fearless’.

Jacobs has claimed that some at the club have discussed making Nusa their number one target this month.

Chelsea discussing Nusa

He said: “I would be quite surprised if Chelsea find their ‘elite’ or established striker this month – at least not one for the long-term who also has a proven goalscoring track record in a big five league. So that could lead them to explore a short-term solution.

“The excellent Matt Law reports Chelsea could look to the Saudi market. As it stands, there have been no formal approaches for either Al-Ittihad’s Karim Benzema or Al-Ahli’s Bobby Firmino.

“I am still told another recruitment meeting will happen before any single target is locked in. Right now multiple names are being floated internally, including Antonio Nusa, who Chelsea have tried for before.”

Chelsea have reportedly been in for a number of attackers, however don’t look as if they are going to get their number one target during this transfer window.

Victor Osimhen has been frequently touted as the player most at the club would really like to bring in, however his new contract means he is unlikely to be attainable during the current transfer window.

Reports have also linked the Blues to a number of other signings, including Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson.
