Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic believes he could improve on what he has been lacking in his game from manager Frank Lampard.
The 26-year-old arrived at Chelsea in 2018 as a Real Madrid loanee before eventually signing the permanent deal at Stamford Bridge last summer.
So far, Kovacic has played under two different Chelsea managers and the midfield maestro has had his say on the two tacticians.
He told Chelsea’s 5th stand app: “When I first came to Chelsea, I didn’t realise just how big the club was.
“It’s an amazing club and I’m very proud and happy to be a part of things at Chelsea.
“I really enjoy being here and in my first season, we had a good year under Maurizio Sarri and managed to win te Europa League.
“Then this season, Frank Lampard came in and from the very first moment, our feeling has been very good.”
The Croatia international added that he thinks it has mostly been hard training under Lampard, but he likes it as it helps the players improve.
Despite his overall great impact during games, the former Real Madrid man thinks he still lacks the finishing products.
He has scored just two goals for Chelsea this season and in fact, throughout his career (club level) Kovacic has just had 11 goals to his name.
But playing under Premier League’s all-time top scorer midfielder has its own perks and Kovacic plans to study from the manager.
He said: “I like his character, the way he was speaking to the team and I think personally, I can learn a lot from him.
“The things that I have perhaps been missing in my game, such as scoring goals and being more direct, are the things that Lampard was amazing at throughout his career.
“So I would say he is a great manager, a great person and I think I will be able to learn a lot from him during my time here.”
