‘Legend’… Thiago Silva shares the Chelsea icon he would have loved to play with

Thiago Silva has picked a Chelsea icon when selecting a Premier League legend to play alongside him in defence.

It’s not the biggest surprise that Thiago Silva has admitted he would have loved to play alongside John Terry.

The duo crossed paths as players on opposition teams, but they never lined up in the same club. That’s probably a relief for strikers everywhere!

Blues icon Terry, who’s been retired since 2018, is etched across the history at Stamford Bridge. We’re very much of the opinion that the 43-year-old’s the greatest centre-back to ever play in the Premier League.

As for Silva, the 39-year-old’s currently playing in his fourth season as a Chelsea player. The veteran Brazilian centre-half now has his own special place in the club’s history, winning their second ever Champions League in 2021.

During an interview with the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Silva was asked to choose one Premier League legend to be his ultimate centre-back partner.

“I’ll go with John Terry since I am at Chelsea we have a great relationship. There is always a good vibe every time I see him and he’s a legend for the club and English football,” Silva said.

Thiago Silva and John Terry partnership

Terry had some special centre-back combinations at Chelsea throughout his illustrious career, including both Ricardo Carvalho and Gary Cahill.

We suspect there would have been similar fireworks with a Silva-Terry partnership.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

The Telegraph reports that Silva is unlikely to start this Sunday’s League Cup final with Liverpool because of a recent groin injury.

It feels to us like it’s time for Chelsea’s young central defenders to step forward into the spotlight, with Levi Colwill and Axel Disasi in prime position. There’s also the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana as long-term options at the back, too.
