Reports have claimed that Levi Colwill began to question whether he should stay at Chelsea last summer.

According to The Athletic, the club’s pursuit of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig made him seriously wonder if he had a future at Stamford Bridge.

Right now, Colwill is one of the players highest in demand by elite sides around Europe. It is widely accepted that every club in the Premier League is an admirer of his.

Brighton however are the side reportedly leading the interest in him after having him on loan last season. They are looking to hold that leverage against the Blues in their quest to sign Moises Caicedo.

Despite this interest, Chelsea are adamant that he is not for sale, and the player is set for chats with new manager Mauricio Pochettino to discuss his future.

Colwill was worried about Gvardiol

The potential future could have been a complete myth however if Thomas Tuchel had got his way last summer, when he and the club were pushing for Gvardiol.

The defender, who is currently close to making a sensational switch to Manchester City, was close to becoming a deadline day signing last summer for Chelsea.

Despite offering big money for the deal, the asking price from the Bundesliga side was eventually upped to a fee of £76m, that they did not feel comfortable paying.

With the Croatia international occupying a similar profile to the England U21 hero, it is not difficult to see why he may have been concerned about his future at Stamford Bridge.

There will be supporters hoping the same has not occurred since the addition of Benoit Badiashile from Monaco, who has also impressed since coming in on the left of defence.
