Chelsea’s Levi Colwill delivered huge praise on one teammate after the much-needed victory on Tuesday night.

Chelsea returned to winning ways in midweek with a 4-0 success at home to Southampton in the Premier League.

The Blues had lost three of their previous four league matches going into Tuesday’s game, so it felt like a vital three points at Stamford Bridge. In fact, it’s lifted Enzo Maresca’s side up to fourth in a congested division table.

In the Chelsea player ratings versus Southampton, many individuals impressed and proved their quality. Next, the Blues travel to Copenhagen in the Conference League before hosting Leicester City in the league.

Levi Colwill super impressed by Pedro Neto covering as the Chelsea striker

It’s now back-to-back games that Chelsea winger Pedro Neto, 24, has played out of position to fill the team’s void in the striker spot.

Neto was excellent against Aston Villa after his surprise inclusion as a centre-forward at the weekend. He’s just followed that up by leading the line again versus Southampton.

Blues centre-back Levi Colwill raved about the Portugal international after his eye-catching display against the Saints, where he scored one goal and assisted another.

When discussing Chelsea teammate Neto, Colwill told TNT Sports: “He is an amazing player. Maybe he is playing out of position, but the best players can do that and do it really well. That’s what he has been doing for us. I am over the moon with his performance.”

It was less than a week ago that Martin Keown urged Neto to step up for Chelsea. Well, the left-footed attacker has responded in emphatic fashion with two superb performance, although we doubt many predicted it would be as a No 9.

The diminutive forward is filling the void really well during the absence of Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu because he’s got the movement to stretch opposition teams.

Pedro Neto scores and assists in the same Premier League match for the first time

During Chelsea’s one-sided win over Southampton, Neto was in many ways the star of the show.

The stand-in frontman scored his team’s second goal when he unleashed a powerful strike past Saints goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Afterwards, his accurate free kick assisted Colwill’s header to make it 3-0.

Remarkably, Squawka noted that it’s the first time Neto has ever scored and assisted in the same Premier League fixture.

Glenn Hoddle wants Neto in Chelsea’s XI for the foreseeable future. At this current moment, we see no reason why he shouldn’t continue in this new role, but we’d expect him to return to the wing when Jackson is available again.
