Levi Colwill has realised something about the Chelsea team after their defeat to Fulham

There’s not been too many setbacks at Chelsea in the first half of the season, so it’ll be interesting to see how they respond to a couple of negative results over the festive period.

Chelsea were held to a goalless draw away to Everton last week. Afterwards, the Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to local rivals Fulham.

It means Enzo Maresca’s side have picked up one point from their last two games in the Premier League, which has seen them slip down to third in the division table.

Levi Colwill claim after Chelsea defeat to Fulham

Levi Colwill has reacted to Chelsea’s loss in the West London derby by saying it underlines why the team isn’t in the mix for the title this season.

The 21-year-old Blues centre-back doesn’t think the side can win the league crown. He’s confident they’ll be able to quickly bounce back from their third league defeat of the campaign, though.

“It’s going to hurt the momentum, but we can build it back up,” Colwill said via Chelsea’s official website.

“We weren’t lying when we said we weren’t in the race. This is a realisation we’re not there yet. We will just try to keep picking up three points.”

Colwill also added: “December has been a tough month, with a lot of games, and we have another game in three days, so we have to keep going. We’re not where everyone expects to be, realistically. We still have a lot to improve on.”

Clinton Morrison has Chelsea urged to make January signings because they’re currently short in the title race. In truth, Maresca’s debut season as the Blues head coach will down as a success if he secures a top-four finish.

Chelsea’s next five league fixtures

We’re going to learn even more about Chelsea and where they may finish this season in the upcoming set of games. Here is a look at the Blues’ next five league fixtures:

Chelsea take on newly-promoted Ipswich for the first time this campaign, which will signal the halfway point in their season. Afterwards, they play the reverse fixtures against teams they’ve already faced this season.

The Blues beat Bournemouth and Wolves earlier in the season. However, they were held to a draw by Palace, plus suffered defeat on the opening day against Man City.
