Levi Colwill says he is buzzing after scoring in Chelsea’s 3-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday but has also described his goal as “bittersweet”.

It was Levi Colwill‘s first goal for Chelsea, but the central defender was a Brighton player last term, spending the season there on loan.

He has now spoken to Chelsea’s official website about what it was like to score against his former club.

Colwill has impressed for the Blues since returning to Stamford Bridge, with Brentford defender Ben Mee recently praising the 20-year-old for his form.

Levi Colwill buzzing after first Chelsea goal against Brighton

Colwill is delighted after opening his account in a blue shirt but says it was a bittersweet moment for him given that his goal came against a club he has so much respect for.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, he said: “I’m buzzing to get my first Premier League goal and my first goal for Chelsea, in fact. I guess it’s somewhat slightly bittersweet for me in the sense that it’s come against Brighton, a club that means so much to me, but I’m really pleased to help the team get the three points.

“The goal meant a lot to me but I also wanted to show respect to Brighton. We needed that victory and that’s what matters the most, so I’m really pleased. I’ve got so much respect for Brighton as a club. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for them, so I’ve got a lot of admiration for them and for the manager there.

“There’s no hiding from that but listen, I play for Chelsea and this club means so much to me as well. I had a job to do and I’m just glad we got the win as a team.”

Levi Colwill has moved on from Brighton

Colwill’s loan spell at Brighton was a successful one and the south coast club wanted to keep him, something owner Tony Bloom confirmed back in September.

However, there is no doubt that Brighton are now a thing of the past for the England international.

He has returned to Chelsea, become a key player under Mauricio Pochettino and now scored against the Seagulls.

In total, Colwill has made 12 starts in the Premier League this season for the Blues, playing at both left-back and centre-back.

It is quite clear to see, then, that Colwill has developed into a good defender and Brighton have obviously played their part in that. The Three Lions star will be thankful for that, but he is now a first-team Chelsea player.

Hopefully it is not too long before Colwill’s next goal. Chelsea fans would love to see him get his name on the scoresheet again on Wednesday when the Blues take on Manchester United, as the club desperately need the three points.
