Lewis Hall very impressed by 24-year-old Chelsea player’s performance in victory over Bournemouth

Chelsea youngster Lewis Hall has taken to Instagram to praise Marc Cucurella for his performance against Bournemouth last night.

The Blues returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over a side they have struggled against in recent years.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in the first half helped put an end to a five-game Premier League run without a victory.

Graham Potter elected to start a back four for the return to domestic football, with Cucurella preferred in the left-back role despite the recent emergence of Hall as a genuine option out of the academy.

With Ben Chilwell injured, there is a real opportunity for the Spaniard to establish himself as the number one in the position.

Hall praises Cucurella

In truth, it’s been a tough start to the campaign defender since his transfer from Brighton over the summer. He has frequently come in to criticism as he looks to make the step-up in quality required to feature regularly for Chelsea.

However, a strong showing last night is certainly a good sign that he can be an important member of the first team.

He obviously impressed Hall, who is rivalling him for a role in the side. The youngster commented on his post-game Instagram post praising his display.

The Spaniard will be hoping he did enough to impress his manager at his last two clubs to be granted consecutive starts when they face Nottingham Forest on New Years’ Day.

It was not all positives however for the Blues. Reece James’ first game back from injury ended in him being forced off the pitch early in the second half.

It appears he has aggravated a similar issue to what saw him spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines, meaning it could be a number of weeks before we see the England international again.
