Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that senior chiefs at Chelsea are actually fans of one striker in particular that is not Victor Osimhen.

He told his Substack that decision makers at Stamford Bridge are big fans of Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres following his sensational campaign so far.

Gyokeres was reportedly on the agenda for the Blues during January as they considered bringing in a striker for the second half of the season.

It is clear to see why they were interested. He is currently the top scoring forward in Europe this season.

However, the Blues elected not to make a move for the Sweden international last month, with them seemingly put off by his £85m release clause for now.

However, Phillips has claimed that the striker is still firmly on the list, with him even being near the top of it for some chiefs.

Gyokeres liked by Chelsea chiefs

He said: “But it is true that Chelsea are looking at alternatives, but that news is also nothing new. Chelsea have been doing due diligence and scouting on strikers for a long time now, and that just continues as normal.

“Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting, Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, and Ivan Toney of Brentford all remain high on Chelsea’s striker shortlist and none of them can be ruled out.

“Gyokeres in particular is liked a lot by Chelsea’s decision makers. And Sesko, as I reported earlier last week, has come much more to the forefront of our thinking this week too.”

It does feel as if the Blues are going to make a big move for a striker at the end of the season, with Osimhen seen for a while as the number one target,

However, PSG are reportedly set to make a big move for the striker in the wake of the news that Kylian Mbappe is likely to leave the club at the end of the season.
