Mauricio Pochettino didn’t hold back his frustration after Chelsea’s embarrassing loss at Newcastle United on Saturday.
Yes, there’s no shame losing away at Newcastle, with St James’ Park one of the toughest grounds to visit in the country. However, the Blues completed folded, particularly second-half, during a 4-1 loss in the Premier League.
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino did share his frustration in his post-match press conference straight after the weekend disappointment. He said via BBC Sport: “I think these type of games make me very, very, very, very, very angry because it’s about showing your personality and character.”

Chris Sutton reaction
When discussions the comments from Chelsea’s manager, Chris Sutton did say it’s the firmest he’s ever heard him in an interview. He added the pretty outlandish comment that he “lost the plot” with his reaction.
Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I can’t remember Mauricio Pochettino coming out as a manager and being as strong as this before. He is normally pretty mild mannered and looks for the positives. I think he feels let down by his players. I think it is a trust thing with him and he’s throughout the season they have had good moments and bad moments, but a real lack of consistency with them. It will be interesting how this whole situation pans out now because as I say he sort of lost the plot and I think he feels very let down by his players.”
For what it’s worth, we don’t blame or mind the emotional outburst from Pochettino. The supporters are equally fed up with this inconsistency!
TEAMtalk journalist Fraser Gillan shared via X that the mood among figures within Chelsea was very low after the Newcastle result.
Mauricio Pochettino needs another reaction
With zero European football at Chelsea this season, Pochettino regularly does get an entire week to work with his squad of players on the training ground at Cobham.
It’s been a stop-start campaign so far with every good performance followed by a poor one in the league.
We’re left scratching our head when trying to predict what kind of team will show up this Sunday at home to Brighton.
Hopefully, his squad can produce the type of display a group with this ability should every week.
