Mauricio Pochettino has now confirmed that one player is going to make his first start for Chelsea tomorrow against Sheffield United.
He claimed during his pre-match press conference that goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic is going to make his first start at Stamford Bridge tomorrow when the Premier League returns.
Petrovic is yet to feature for the Blues from the start yet this season, with the goalkeeper position being locked down so far.
Robert Sanchez has started every game since his move from Brighton, although this run will come to an end following the injury he suffered against Everton.
The issue looked as if it may force him off against Manchester United, although he got through 90 minutes that day.
The 24-year-old was subbed on to replace him late on, however he couldn’t deny the Toffees a second goal at Goodison Park.
Petrovic to make first Chelsea start
However, Pochettino has seemingly confirmed that the £14m summer signing is now going to make his first start for the club.
He said: “I think always when you suffer an injury and he was our No.1 goalkeeper so far, always a player we will miss. We have another goalkeeper who is working hard to be ready.
“Of course. I have faith in all of my players. He arrived at Chelsea because we believed he had great potential. Now after four or five months working with us is the moment for him to step up and feel good because we have the trust in him. Now is to make the debut in Stamford Bridge, yes we trust that he can perform in the way we want.”
Petrovic will now be hoping he can take this chance with both hands and prove to the manager that he should be considered for the number one spot even when Sanchez recovers from injury, which he hinted could still be a few weeks away.
