Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella has been speaking in the build-up to the biggest game of his career.

Marc Cucurella and Spain take on England later in the Euro 2024 final, a match the left-back will be expected to start.

He has been one of the standout players in the tournament, putting in some excellent performances for his country.

For example, Cucurella was handed a 7.1 match rating on WhoScored for his display in Spain’s 2-1 win against Germany in the quarter-finals.

It was a game where the 25-year-old was involved in a controversial handball incident, which resulted in him being booed by Germany supporters who attended the Spain versus France match days later. His manager Luis de la Fuente has since spoken about the boo boys, who do not seem to have affected Cucurella too much.

Not the first time Marc Cucurella was booed

Last season, Cucurella also got some boos when Chelsea travelled to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Spaniard ditched Brighton for Chelsea in 2022, and supporters of the Seagulls had clearly not forgotten about that.

Cucurella, though, has claimed that the boos he has received this year have not affected him.

Speaking to La Vanguardia, he said: “When I returned to the Brighton pitch with Chelsea I had been booed a lot too, even more. I think a lot of people had bought their tickets ahead of time and I imagine they were whistling through my hands. But these are things that happen, it’s not something that affects me.

“The truth is that going to a field where your team is not playing and, instead of enjoying a semi-final, spend the time whistling, I don’t think it’s necessary. I’m not saying this for myself, but you could be enjoying a really good game.”

Marc Cucurella justifying Chelsea move

Cucurella cost his current employers a lot of money, with the Spain international being one of the most expensive signings in Chelsea history.

The Blues have often been questioned for spending so much on him.

However, from Cucurella’s point of view, moving to Stamford Bridge has worked out for him.

Following his switch to Chelsea, Cucurella has now become a key player for a Spain side who could be about to win the European Championship. He will have no regrets about leaving the south coast for west London.
