Marc Cucurella has gotten behind Chelsea teammate Nicolas Jackson with some words of encouragement amid his poor run in front of goal.

Nicolas Jackson is the undisputed first-choice striker in the Chelsea squad this season. Even though he started the campaign in excellent form, the 23-year-old’s lost his shooting boots in the last month.

It’s now eight consecutive appearances in the Premier League without scoring for the 23-year-old frontman.

John Obi Mikel has urged Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca to drop Jackson after his performance in Monday night’s 2-1 league victory at home to West Ham. Alternatively, he’s got Christopher Nkunku or Marc Guiu who could possibly lead the line.

Marc Cucurella speaks about Nicolas Jackson during his goalless run

Blues left-back Marc Cucurella has defended teammate Jackson by insisting that the goals will soon start to flow for him again. He said that the Chelsea forward is still “very good” when it comes to his work and movement without the ball.

“I think for every striker in the world it is important to score goals but with Nicolas it’s not just the goals, he gives a lot to the team,” Cucurella said, as quoted by The Mirror.

“He presses very good and does a lot of movement in and out for other players and that is also very good. Everyone has tough moments during the season but the most important thing is that we are with him during this period he plays a lot and for sure if he continues like this he will score a lot of goals.”

Chelsea’s Jackson must be glad that the transfer window is shut because it looks like he’s still the leading striker at the club. However, the arguments for him to be dropped will only get louder and louder the longer this goalless streak continues.

He scored nine goals in his opening 15 league appearances of the 2024/25 season, so it feels like he just needs one to break his duck and regain his confidence.

Nicolas Jackson form

While we may agree that Jackson’s got the ability to bounce back, it’s hard to argue that he warrants a spot in Chelsea’s starting XI right now. Unfortunately, the Senegal international is letting down the Blues in big moments right now, which is ultimately costing them points.

Here is a look at Jackson’s form since the last time he scored against Brentford on 15 December:

Alan Shearer loves the attitude and ability of Chelsea striker Jackson. However, the manager needs to recognise he’s massively struggling right now.

It feels like this weekend’s FA Cup tie away to Brighton is the perfect opportunity to start Guiu over Jackson. If the youngster performs well, he should be pushing to start the next Premier League fixture as well.
