On the pitch, Chelsea were all smiles as they returned to winning ways in the first Premier League game after the international break.

Enzo Maresca led his side to a 2-1 win over former club Leicester City, with Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez finding the net.

The manager bringing the World Cup winner back into the side was somewhat of a surprise, however the faith was repaid in him by the player.

Fernandez covered more distance than any Chelsea player this season at the weekend, and left a decision in his mind for future squad selections.

The Argentine captained the Blues again at the weekend, with Reece James looking as if he is set for another period on the sidelines due to injury.

Chelsea players ‘very sad’ for Reece James

Fellow Chelsea star Marc Cucurella has stated that all the players know just how important the England international is to them, and how they are all gutted that he is now back on the treatment table.

He told journalist Kieran Gill: “We are very sad. It’s tough. He’s fit again then has a small injury. We know he’s very important for us, he’s our captain. He will work hard and can be with us again very soon.”

James is set for a scan early this week to determine if he is set for a prolonged period out, so soon after just returning from injury.

Chelsea to discuss Reece James’ future

There is already talk that Chelsea are prepared to have a conversation this summer over the future of James, with it being very difficult to build a side around a player who is fit so little of the time.

Malo Gusto has deputised very well for the Blues since he joined last summer, playing perhaps more minutes than even he would have expected so far.

With him not fit at the weekend, Wesley Fofana shifted out to right-back, and continued his excellent start to the campaign with an assured performance up against his former side.

Benoit Badiashile came into the side to fill the centre-back void, and did his chances of more minutes in the future no harm with a top display.
