With Marco Palestra set to make his way to Chelsea after reaching an agreement, we’ve taken a look at how his new wage will compare to the current squad.
Chelsea have dramatically hijacked Inter Milan’s pursuit of Atalanta wing-back Marco Palestra, using their financial muscle to add to the squad depth. The 21-year-old had previously agreed to personal terms with Inter following a loan spell at Cagliari, but the Blues have submitted a package exceeding €55 million.
Standing at 1.86 meters (6’1″), Palestra’s play style utilises his aerobic engine and versatility. Having originally developed as a central midfielder in his youth, it’s clear where he got his creativity from.
The Blues set out the aim of signing players with versatility, and this is step one.

The Blues accelerated in the late afternoon today, offering him €60 million to Atalanta and a salary of about €7 million (£6 million), bonuses included.
The Nerazzurri club had an agreement with the footballer for around 2.5/3 million euros. The proposal to Atalanta was for about 50 million euros.

Chelsea wage comparison with Marco Palestra
By offering a package worth €7 million per season to completely hijack Inter Milan’s pursuit, Palestra’s contract translates to roughly £115,000 per week.
This financial package slots him comfortably into the upper mid-tier of Chelsea’s wage hierarchy. He will earn identical base terms to established first-team fixtures like Jorrel Hato and Tosin Adarabioyo, while comfortably doubling the £45,000-a-week earnings of Malo Gusto, his direct competitor.
Another player who will earn just under double less than Palestra is Estevao Willian, who is currently on £60k per week at Stamford Bridge.
