Mason Mount and Reece James have both reacted on Instagram to the latest news that Mateo Kovacic has left Chelsea.

There’s been yet another player exit at Stamford Bridge during a busy summer transfer window, with the Blues acting quickly to trim the squad.

The Blues confirmed yesterday that Mateo Kovacic, 29, has completed a move to Premier League champions Manchester City.

He joins the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and N’Golo Kante to wave their goodbyes to Stamford Bridge this summer. The transfer rumour mill suggests there’s plenty more to come, too.

Kovacic has uploaded a farewell message on Instagram reflecting on five fantastic years in west London.

There’s been some eye-catching responses in the comment section from current Chelsea players, including from both James and Mount.

The pair both posted love heart emojis to the Croatian midfielder, who will leave a big hole in the Blues dressing room as both a player and a character.

The Telegraph recently explained that Chelsea think it’s really good business selling Kovacic to Man City in a deal that could be worth £30million in total.

With just one year remaining on his Blues contract, something was always going to give this summer.

The 29-year-old can be a top-class central midfielder when he’s in the mood, which is why we’re no overly surprised City have took him to the Etihad Stadium.

Chelsea’s midfield from a year ago has now completely evaporated.

Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante were the bedrock of Chelsea’s midfield for the last few years, but they’re all playing their football elsewhere next season.

It means there’s a big rebuild needed in the centre of the park for Mauricio Pochettino as the Blues head coach. Thankfully, he’s got Enzo Fernandez to rely on and build around in the Chelsea midfield.
