Mason Mount has told Soccer AM that Graham Potter has instructed Chelsea’s attackers to be free and versatile since joining the club.
The Blues have been in sensational form since the former Brighton manager took over from Thomas Tuchel. He remains unbeaten in all competitions.
In the time he has been at Stamford Bridge, team selection and formations have been extremely difficult to predict.
However, the side are beginning to find their identify. The first half in particular of their last game against RB Salzburg saw some passing play reminiscent of Potter’s tenure at Brighton.
Mount praises Potter’s instruction
Mount has claimed the instructions from the manager have involved getting the best out of the versatile and fluid attackers he has at his disposal at Stamford Bridge.
He said: “It’s quite free for me as an attacker to take up different positions. But when we don’t have the ball it’s about defending as team, defending as a unit. Being able to go through the tough periods of a game and get through them. That’s what he wants us to do. I feel like we’ve taken on the information quite well and put it into practice in the game.”
Mount has been a regular under Potter in the same way he has been under every manager so far for club and country. He has only not started one game since the Englishman came in to the club.
He is sure to be selected for the squad when Potter returns to the club he had so much success with tomorrow, when they face the Europe-chasing Seagulls.
Whether he features in his favoured ‘number eight’ role or as more of a recognised attacker, his importance to the team is very well documented, and matched by few at the club.
