Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that he has already decided on one key position ahead of Chelsea’s League Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday.

He told the media during his pre-match press conference that in his head he is already aware of who he is going to start in goal at Wembley, although is yet to tell the players.

The goalkeeper position has been maintained in recent months by Djordje Petrovic, who many will have believed was brought in with the intention of him being the number two.

However, since making his debut in December, everyone surrounded with the club has been very impressed with what he has brought to the role.

It was even reported earlier this week that Pochettino himself had been delighted with what he had seen from the 24-year-old since bringing him in.

Despite that, his role in team is now under threat for the first time in the best part of three months.

Pochettino has decided who will start in goal

Robert Sanchez was expected to be back in the squad last time out against Manchester City after making a return to training in recent weeks.

While he wasn’t seen at the Etihad, it is now very likely he will be in the squad in one way or another to face Liverpool.

Pochettino has already confirmed he knows which of his two goalkeepers are going to start at Wembley.

He said: “Yes [I have decided the starting goalkeeper]. 99% of the team is in my head. Not yet [have I told the team my team selection]. I prefer to tomorrow, or after, [to tell the players].”

It would feel extremely unfair for Petrovic to be dropped at this stage, with his performances recently actually being better than the ones the former Brighton man put in earlier this season.

It remains to be seen as to whether Pochettino makes this call.
