Mauricio Pochettino has admitted one of his key players is about to return from injury for Chelsea.

He told the club website that Christopher Nkunku is approaching his comeback from injury and the opportunity to make his debut for his new club.

There were some reports that Nkunku would be fit to make his first competitive appearance for the Blues after suffering an issue in pre-season.

Pochettino himself admitted he was having to play it by ear as to whether the Frenchman would be available.

However, it seems the boss has decided it is not worth taking the risk at this stage for the Premier League fixture against Everton.

He did state however that the attacker, as well as fellow summer signing Romeo Lavia were in the final stages of their recoveries.

He said: “We will see. The last step is always the most difficult thing. Christopher Nkunku and Romeo Lavia are so close, but at the same time we had a small delay, but we hope that they can be involved soon.”

With the fixtures now beginning to stack up off the back of us entering the festive period of the season, the return of any players is going to be good news for the manager.

It may be a beginning up front for Nkunku, with Pochettino clearly not happy with his current options.

He has dropped Nicolas Jackson for today’s game against Everton, with him instead handing a rare start to Armando Broja.
