Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has been left shocked by Cole Palmer so far this season.

Chelsea agreed a £45million deal (Evening Standard) with Manchester City in the summer to sign Cole Palmer, which is turning out to be a fantastic piece of business.

The 21-year-old attacker’s quickly established himself as a key starter at Stamford Bridge. It’s even led to a maiden senior England call-up, too.

Apparently, Mauricio Pochettino can’t quite believe the playmaker’s impact in West London.

Manager shock

The Daily Mail reports that Pochettino is surprised as anyone by Palmer’s excellent start in Chelsea colours.

It is understood that the Blues head coach needed some persuading before sanctioning the move for the English youngster a few months ago.

The report says that Joe Shields, who works as Chelsea’s co-director of recruitment, rallied hard to sign Palmer in the summer.

It does look like one of the Premier League buys of the season.

Cole Palmer a potential bargain

We understand a lot is made about the club’s wild spending in recent years, but Palmer may be an example of a jewel within all the chaos.

Speaking via GiveMeSport this month, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Chelsea believe Palmer has a huge future ahead of him at the club.

He’s made a superb contribution at the start of his Blues career, scoring four goals and making four assists in 12 games. On top of that, he’s showing real maturity and leadership on the pitch at the age of 21.

The fearless attacker, playing as a right-winger or central attacking midfielder, always wants the ball to feet to try get Chelsea playing.

It’ll now be interesting to watch him develop and see how he copes with the added expectation on his young shoulders.
