Chelsea youngster Alex Matos is beginning to make a real impression as part of the first-team group.

That is according to a report from The Evening Standard.

Alex Matos, who’s just 19, only signed for Chelsea back in the summer after developing in Norwich City’s academy.

The versatile midfielder has made some appearances for the Blues Under-21s team this season. However, he’s also played in two first-games as well, both late cameos from the bench.

There’s now a suggestion that he’s making his mark around the senior group.

Rising prospect at Chelsea

The Evening Standard explained this week that Matos has been fast-tracked into Chelsea’s main group.

It is understood that Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has picked out the teenager. He’s since ‘excelled’ in training this season while the first-team group has been short on numbers due to injury.

The report added that he’s more natural in a midfield position despite getting minutes on the wing.

Alex Matos has lots of inspiration

Matos is a fresh face around the building at Chelsea, but he should feel motivated to follow in the footsteps of several Blues youngsters to make the leap from the academy to the first team at Stamford Bridge.

In the know account ‘The Secret Scout’ recently said that Pochettino does like Matos a lot from coaching him.

We certainly hope that we get to see more of him as the season progresses.

He’s already made the matchday squad in five league games this season, even coming on late on against Fulham at the start of October.

It does feel like the squad is beginning to get a bit stronger as various injured players are starting to return to fitness, but our guess is there will always be an opportunity for the club’s youngsters to try make an impression under Pochettino.

On top of that, the very low average age of the group should make it a little bit easier for the prospect to join in during training.
