Mauricio Pochettino is unlikely to put Carney Chukwuemeka straight back into Chelsea’s starting XI after the international break.
That is according to Dean Jones.
Journalist Dean Jones has reported via GiveMeSport that Chelsea will resist the temptation to rush Carney Chukwuemeka back from injury.
The 19-year-old midfielder was back on the bench and an unused substitute in last weekend’s Premier League win against Burnley, but he’s not played since August because of a knee injury.
Jones explains that Chelsea are likely to have the £20million star (BBC) on the bench for the next two games, which are league contests against Arsenal and Brentford. Afterwards, he could start in the Carabao Cup against Blackburn Rovers.

Chukwuemeka started the opening two games of the Premier League season, scoring a fantastic individual goal against West Ham. Therefore, it was frustrating to see the youngster suffer a knee problem when everything was looking so promising for him.
We feel like the English youngster is someone who will achieve great things while Mauricio Pochettino is sitting in the manager’s dugout.
It’s going to be great watching him play after the international break and he immediately strengthens the bench, but we can understand not rushing his return.

In fairness, Chelsea’s midfield trio has looked very settled in the past few games. That is why it’ll be hard to drop any of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez or Conor Gallagher to make room for Chukwuemeka.
It’ll definitely be a good selection headache for Blues head coach Pochettino to have moving forward.
Chukwuemeka’s well suited to playing in a No 10 position as an advanced midfielder, so could we see a fascinating battle play out between him and Gallagher?
