Mauricio Pochettino says Chelsea have a midfielder who reminds him of N’golo Kante now

Chelsea signing Moises Caicedo does have similarities in his game to N’Golo Kante.

That is according to Mauricio Pochettino.

All eyes are on Moises Caicedo, 21, to make a huge impression this year during his first season at Stamford Bridge. That is largely down to the fact Chelsea paid a British-record fee of £115million (Sky Sports) to sign him from Brighton this summer.

It was a difficult debut for him last weekend in the defeat to West Ham, but he’s available to make his first start on Friday night against Luton Town.

Chelsea head coach Pochettino has paid huge credit to the quality and potential of Chelsea’s new No 25.

In fact, he’s compared the midfielder to previous Blues star N’Golo Kante.

We’re not sure if we’ve ever seen a player like prime Kante cover so much ground with top quality for 90 mins. However, Caicedo was a Rolls-Royce in the centre of the park for Brighton last year and he’s still so young.

“I never worked with Kante but he (Caicedo) is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League,” Pochettino told Sky Sports.

“He has some similar characteristics to Kante but Moises is still young and needs to work really hard to improve in different areas.

“But he has the potential to be one of the best.”

Kante exited Chelsea this summer on a free transfer and he leaves a gigantic hole in the squad, albeit he’s had injury problems interrupt him in the past couple of years.

Any opposition will have been braced for a great challenge when preparing to face Kante, who’s a 32-year-old midfielder that can dominate games on his own with his running power on and off the ball.

So, can Caicedo strike fear into opponents as he matures and develops?

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has said this week he expects Caicedo to grow into one of the world’s elite midfielder, as quoted by talkSPORT.
